This battery charger is the most sophisticated available. The 16v boost setting is designed to recover deeply discharged batteries.
Two charging currents are then available dependant on the size and type of battery. The supply 13.6v setting is a feature unique to the XS7000, this turns the unit into a 13.6v power supply. This can be used for diagnostics when a constant voltage is required or to be connected to the vehicle electrics to avoid loosing security codes and vehicle ECU settings.
